RUET and Mass Communication Champions in Debate Festival

Debate Festival Concluded in Tense Situation

Rajshahi, February 21:

One of the largest debate festivals of the country concluded through auspicious function though in a tense situation in Rajshahi on Monday.  Reception and folk cultural presentation of one of the best five singers of Close-up One Moshiur Rahman Rinku added much more amusement to the function.

Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) and Mass Communication Department of Rajshahi University (RU) became Champions in Inter-College and Parliamentary Debate Competition respectively. Moreover, Mahfuzur Rahman Mishu, student of Mass Communication Department of RU annexed champion in the Interpersonal Debate Competition. Mass communication oriented development organization CCD Bangladesh, its co-organization Bangladesh Advanced Students Alliance (BASA) and British Council organized the competition for the first time in Rajshahi.

The Inter-College Debate Competition was held in the morning at Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium in RU as it was prescheduled.  RUET debating team defeated Rajshahi Medical College through a hard competition. The final round of the parliamentary debate competition and Barwary Debate Copetition were to be held in the same venue in the afternoon. But the RU authority withdrew their permission of the program due to their anxiety of security and they cancelled all others program in that venue. Under the above circumstances CCD Bangladesh changed its venue to Monafer Morh and arranged stage there and successfully concluded the festival with the cooperation of police force.

In the afternoon, Mass Communication Department of RU and Group of Liberal Debaters (GOLD) faced the final round of the parliamentary debate competition there. Mass Communication Department debating team became champion defeating GOLD through a hard contest. Mahfuzur Rahman Mishu of the winning team became the best speaker in the final. Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation Mizanur Rahman Minu MP as chief guest handed over the prizes and certificates to the winners in an auspicious function. Pro- Vice Chancellor of RU Prof Dr Mamnunul Keramat, Director of Teachers and Students Culture Centre (TSCC) of RU Prof Dr Abdur Rahman Siddiquee, Editor of the daily Natun Provat Sarder Abdur Rahman and renowned journalist Mohammad Zulfiker attended the function as special guests while Director of CCD Bangladesh G M Mourtoza was in the chair. Program Coordinator of CCD Bangladesh A H M Abdul Hai, BASA Organizer A S M Anisur Rahman Litu and Farzana Hafiz Bubly presented welcome address in the function.   

Youth Voice member Rinku (popularly known as NTV Close Up 1) 

At the end a warm reception was awarded to the best fifth singer of the Close-up One and Organiser of Youth Voice Moshiur Rahman Rinku. Later on Rinku and the members of Youth Voice including Mamun, Shabab, Shuchi, Soeli, Monika and Auronna rendered enchanting folk songs. Campaign Officer of CCD Bangladesh Abdul Muttalib Jewel co-coordinated the cultural program. Over one thousand members of BASA and Youth Voice, students of different higher educational institutions and mass people enjoyed the function with tune of music and dancing. Thus the touch of debate festival and folk cultural functions extended to the mass people of the city crossing the boundary of the university campus.
